Have you ever come across a product, that claims to be similar in comparison to another product? Say shampoo for instance. You look at the bottle, the ingredients are the same, or pretty close, they smell the same, but for some reason, one just tends to work better than the other? So why is this? Well, although both companies use the same ingredients, the amount in which those ingredients are used, differs; as well as how each individual persons body reacts to those ingredients, are going to differ. That’s why it’s super important to go through a company that provides third party test results for their CBD products. All of our test results can be found here.
So, lets face it, all companies that go into business, are in it for one of a couple different reasons, but the number one reason usually being to make money. To be able to provide a service, or product, that is not always better in comparison to other similar companies out there. Although both companies use the same ingredients, Company A could be using a higher quality shampoo fragrance than Company B, but Company B’s shampoo detergent is of a higher quality. Same ingredients, different results.
All too often in the CBD industry, we hear, “I used a CBD product from company A, and it seemed to work, but this product from company B works so much better, but the ingredients are the same.” So, why is that? Well, it all boils down to the quality ingredients that are being used in your products. CBD isolate can be purchased from a number of different markets. You can purchase CBD directly from hemp farms here in the U.S., or you can purchase from markets overseas in China or other places.
The difference in these products, is going to be the purity of these products, and making sure that they are not a synthetic form of CBD. CBD that can be purchased here in the U.S. will typically come with what is called a COA or Certificate of Authenticity. These products are often third party lab tested, to ensure the quality and purity of the product that you are purchasing. Now, don’t get us wrong, there could be a lot of other markets out there that import CBD that is a very high quality, however, we have not found this to be the case, for our circumstances.
To be able to provide the highest quality products, and some of the most diverse products on the market, we wanted to be able to provide water soluble products to our customers. One of the only places we could find water soluble CBD at a reasonable price, was if we imported it from China. Since water soluble CBD is hard to produce, it typically comes with a much higher price tag. So, to see if this was a product we could use, we placed an order for a sample, and waited for it to arrive.
Now, as you may have noticed, we do not have water soluble products on our website, and you may be asking yourself, why is that? Well, the CBD that we ordered from China, was not a high enough quality product that we would be proud to put our name on. It had a very plastic smell, and it was noticed right away when turned into a vapor, that it was in fact synthetic CBD. Not a pure, natural, organically extracted product.
Unfortunately there are CBD companies out there that simply want to get the cheapest product that they can get their hands on, to then turn around and sell it at a 200% markup. That is why, although Company A and Company B have the same ingredients, Company B works better. They are providing their customers with higher quality ingredients.
So what can you do to make sure that you are getting what you pay for? The easiest way, is to request a COA from the company you are looking to make a purchase from. Third party testing is not cheap, it is actually a very large expense for CBD companies that carry a wide variety of products. If a company does not provide these test results, chances are they either don’t care what’s in their products, they don’t care to disclose this information, or they’re simply looking to take your money, without the thought of you being a return customer.
When requesting a COA, there are a couple of things you want to look for.
1. You want to make sure that the COA is not third party lab tested by their own company.
2. Make sure that the COA is not tested, and results given on the same day.
3. When purchasing a pure product, make sure that there are no other cannabinoids such as THC present on the test results.
4.When purchasing full spectrum products, make sure that the THC count is below 0.3%.
5. Check to see if the company tests for residual solvents, metals, or pesticides on their pure and crude full spectrum.
6. Check for the purity of the product. You want to make sure that a 500mg, is in fact 500mg or higher, but never lower.
